Wendy's® High School Heisman® Deadline: October 2, 2015

There is still time to refer students for the 2015 Wendy's High School Heisman awards! Every year Wendy’s recognizes more than 5,000 of the best male and female high school seniors and rewards $120,000 in donations to schools across the country. Wendy’s is looking for the next class of remarkable students who excel in academics, athletics, and community involvement to receive the Heisman honors. The class of 2016 graduating seniors can apply at www.wendyshighschoolheisman.com through this Friday, October 2, 2015.  Please tell eligible students to apply or refer students using this online form. To be eligible, a student must have: Maintained at least a ‘B’ grade point average Participated in one of 43 eligible school sponsored sports Demonstrated active involvement in his or her community Winners are identified at the local, state and national level. Students receive the recognition they deserve and their school can be one of 100 high schools who receive up to $5,000 in donations. The Wendy’s High School Heisman program is truly a stepping stone toward high achievements, and with college admissions growing more selective, a national award of this caliber can help students stand out. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to tell students to apply or nominate someone today.

About PSAT/NMSQT

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) is a program cosponsored by the College Board and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC). It's a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT^®. It also gives you a chance to enter NMSC scholarship programs and gain access to college and career planning tools.  This test also has the capability of giving you feedback on your readiness to take AP (Advanced Placement) classes while in high school.

The PSAT/NMSQT measures:

• Critical reading skills
• Math problem-solving skills
• Writing skills

Sophomores are allowed to test, however only Juniors can be entered in the Nation Merit Scholarship portion.

We recommend those ranked in the top 10% of their class take the test.  There is a $15 cost to test.  See Mrs. Brechwald to sign up!!!!  Registration deadline is Thursday, September 24th.

John Deere Tech - Calmar Visit Day Opportunity

We are inviting all SENIORS and JUNIORS to attend the College Visit at Northeast Iowa Community College (NICC) for the John Deere TECH Program on Thursday, October 8th, on the Calmar Campus .

Attached is a flier giving a basic agenda for the day. As you can see, the majority of the time is spent touring and checking out the hands on facility and talking with instructors, which is very beneficial for students deciding if this is the right career choice for them.

Transportation will be provided, but we must know which students are planning on attending by Monday September 28^th.  We will contact students with pick up points and time after we know who is all planning on attending.  Will need the following information from interested students:

·        First Name

·        Last Name

·        Phone Number

·        Grade

·        DOB (asked for by NICC)

·        Address

There is limited space available.  We will only be able to take 30 students.  Please call or email your student’s information as soon as they consent to go, so that they can reserve their seat.
